Outside of Ireland many people think that the only food they eat are potatoes and plain meat but it really isn’t just those two boring foods they live on every day. They may be a part of the staple foods because cool Irish climate and soil conditions proved perfect for growing and harvest potatoes. It is a small but hearty food supply that supports most families going through a hard time with money or just as a cheap alternative to more expensive foods. The main meat that is used is pork (Pig), but also beef is another staple meat that is very accessible since most of Ireland is made up cropland but still have plenty of areas for cattle and other farm animals.
The challenges of producing food are that Ireland is the many forests are filled with many requirements and native plants and animals. If we destroy most of the forests that lay within Ireland all the animals will die off and the pollution rate will grow immensely cause the temperature to rise and the plants and crops will suffer and not flourish in what were once were the best climate and temperature to one that doesn’t suite the area and crops. Logical thinking will bring you if Ireland has lost land to other countries as of now there are no cases of Ireland grabbing land or having land grabbed from them. The climate change will affect everybody in Ireland because the main changes are sea level rise, more intense storms and rainfall events, increased likelihood and of river and coastal flooding and water shortages in summer in the east, huge decrease on water quality, changes in distribution of plant and animal species, effects on fisheries sensitive to changes in temperature and changing overall temperatures. Ireland has some water scarcity so clean and fresh water is getting harder to access and gain just only from the plenty of rainfall they gain thanks to their climate but it isn’t enough for drinking water, farming or agricultural benefits. Other uses for water in Ireland are fabricating, processing, washing, diluting, cooling, transporting a product; or for sanitation needs within the manufacturing facility. But agricultural use of water accounts for nearly 70% of the water used throughout the world.
Some tough challenges we are facing over the 30 or so years will be how to increase food production to meet the needs of an ever growing population while reducing the level of greenhouses gases and slowing the rate of global warming. To make it easier to grow and harvest various crops; to save the growing rate of obesity and diabetes people need to stray away from all the many processed foods and keep to the natural and ever growing roots, pulses, vegetables and fruits. It may become more expensive but it is for the better of your life and health take control and make a difference. The world population is estimated to increase from its current seven billion to over nine billion by 2050. Food production will need to increase by 70 per cent, on a decreasing natural resource base of land and water. This challenge is made greater by climate
change, which is changing weather patterns drastically and growing season lengths or abruptly changing seasons without warning.
